What is Custom Brass Extrusion Process

Brass extrusions are brass materials with specific geometric shapes manufactured through the extrusion molding process. As an important copper-zinc alloy material, brass extrusions combine excellent mechanical properties, processability, and service performance, making them indispensable basic materials in fields such as mechanical engineering, architectural decoration, and daily hardware. The extrusion molding process involves applying external force to force a brass billet through a die opening of a specific shape, causing plastic deformation into a profile with the desired cross-section. This process can produce a wide variety of brass profiles with numerous specifications and complex shapes, with over 30,000 varieties available, including both solid brass profiles and hollow brass profiles

Brass Extrusion and Bronze Extrusion Features and Advantages

Brass extruded profiles possess excellent performance in multiple aspects, making them the material of choice in many application fields: Excellent Mechanical Properties: Brass extruded profiles have high strength and hardness while maintaining good wear resistance. For instance, C38500 leaded brass has a tensile strength of ≥330 MPa, a yield point of ≥110 MPa, and a reduction of area of ≥15%. Good Machinability: Particularly leaded brass (e.g., C38500), known as "free-cutting brass," exhibits excellent machining performance. Lead exists in the brass as free particles distributed along grain boundaries, significantly improving the material's machinability. Good Corrosion Resistance: Brass extruded profiles exhibit good resistance to corrosion from the atmosphere, water, and general chemical media, making them suitable for use in various environmental conditions. Flexible Forming Ability: The extrusion process can produce profiles with complex cross-sectional shapes, including ultra-thin, ultra-thick, and asymmetrical specially designed profiles, meeting personalized needs in different fields. Cost-Effectiveness: Brass extruded profiles have relatively low production costs and high processing efficiency, making them suitable for mass production. Additionally, high material utilization reduces metal loss

Architectural Brass Extrusions Alloy Grades and Their Applications

Different compositions of brass alloys have unique performance characteristics suitable for various application scenarios:

C38500 Leaded Brass

C38500 is one of the most widely used leaded brasses. Its chemical composition is: copper (Cu) 55.0-60.0%, lead (Pb) 2.0-3.8%, iron (Fe) ≤0.35%, with zinc (Zn) as the remainder This alloy features excellent cutting performance, wear resistance, and high strength, and is primarily used in:Various connecting parts, valves, and valve stem bearing cages in mechanical engineering. Hot-forged valve blanks, and major markets like the lock industry and clock industry. Architectural profiles, door and window frames, hinges, and lock cylinders in architectural hardware components .
